Tafea school principals learn more about gender equity to improve management and inclusive education

Port Vila, Vanuatu – 18 August 2023: Forty-two school principals in Tafea are attending the Gender Voices for Dignity training delivered by the Pacific Theological College. The training started on 14 August 2023 and will last four weeks.

The participants were nominated by Tafea Provincial Education Officer. In total, 32 participants attended the training in Lenakel, eight participants were connecting from Port Vila, one from North Tanna and one from Erromango.

The gender voices for dignity training is a certificate training that counts four units: human dignity and gender equality from a biblical – theological perspective; gender, church, structures and systems affecting human relationships; gender and changing roles in society; and, community organizing and advocacy for change. It is a component of the full diploma program for principals in Vanuatu that includes the Leadership and Management certificate training, the social analysis course and the gender voices for dignity certificate training.

Mr. Daniel Gideon Kaio is very grateful of the partnership between Tafea Provincial Education Office, the Ministry and Vanuatu Education Support Program, funded by the Australian Government. He said “Thanks to this cooperation, Tafea school principals can develop their skills and knowledge to improve school management”.

The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) developed a training schedule for 2024 to 2026 that will guide the capacity development of teachers.

The Director of Education Services, Mrs. Nanise Lapi, said “Once endorsed, the 2024 to 2026 training scheduled will guide the training efforts of the Ministry of Education and Training. The Ministry recognises the importance of principals’ leadership to improve Vanuatu education in terms of management but also access and management”.

The MoET, communities, schools across Vanuatu and the development partners are committed to delivering the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goal and improving access, quality and management of Vanuatu education.
